Are there any rainy afternoons when you just get bored out of your mind?

Having a day off is the best until it starts raining and you can't go out or do anything. That's where boredom comes in, and you start feeling like a caged lion. Pretty much like Sherlock when he doesn't have an interesting case to work on. But instead of running around in a bathrobe, throwing a ball around the house, playing a random piece of Bach on the violin, or experimenting with strange chemicals, we just sit and watch TV. Considerably less interesting, yes, but also a lot safer.

After all these years, on rainy Sunday afternoons, I sometimes still go back to this show. I swear, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock still has me in a chokehold. That was my entry to the Sherlock Holmes world. After that, I watched some of the movies (there are tons, so I haven't seen them all yet) and bought all of the books. I still haven't finished reading them, but at least I keep them handy. With this show, I found out I have a thing for extremely intellectual and slightly narcissistic people. Not the best traits to look for in a group of friends, but really entertaining for fictional characters, and that's all we're here for right now: a bit of entertainment. When I come across someone who finds it less than fantastic, I think, in the words of Sherlock, "Dear God. What is it like in your funny little brains? It must be so boring."

What is it so fascinating about seeing someone who has all the answers all the time? In real life, it would be extremely annoying, that's for sure. I think it has a lot more to do with us not dealing very well with our own daily uncertainties. We hardly ever deal with absolutes. We're constantly meeting with the unknown and trying to figure it out as we go. Then, in comes Sherlock, with his sass, witty remarks, and that look that tells us he already knows where we work, how many pets we have, and what we ate for dinner. Seeing someone like that tickles the part of our brains that enjoys order and tidy little boxes to keep things well stashed. Which one of you has never tried the "mind palace" meditation thing to get some peace after a day with too much information? I certainly have, but I call it a "filing cabinet." Keeps everything in place.

We all like to pretend we're Sherlock every now and then. It's really fun to walk along the street and try to figure out random things about strangers just by paying a little extra attention. So this meme list is for us all, "high-functioning sociopaths," who miss this show and want to play detective for a while.
